Two Trees, One Bond A Buckeye Love Story at Our Maryland Wedding Venue

Some love stories are written in vows. Others are preserved through letters, photographs, and quiet moments shared over time. At Bowling Brook Mansion, one of our most cherished stories has been growing in our front yard for more than a century.

If you're searching for a wedding venue in Maryland with a meaningful history, we invite you to discover the story behind these two trees.

A Century-Old Buckeye Love Story at Bowling Brook Mansion

Nestled within the rich history of Bowling Brook Mansion stand two magnificent Buckeye trees, one on either side of our Historic Fountain. These grand trees have grown together for over a hundred years, and they have become living symbols of devotion for the couples who celebrate here.

In the story we love to tell, the tree on the left is male, and the tree on the right is female, growing together as symbols of devotion and connection. Hidden beneath the earth, their roots are deeply intertwined, while high above, their lush canopies reach toward each other in the gentle breeze. Together, they represent a lasting bond that has endured through generations.

Through the passage of time, they have weathered storms and shared sunlight, growing side by side. To us, they are a beautiful picture of the connection and support found in true love.

Saying "I Do" at Our Historic Fountain

Our Buckeye trees stand beside one of our most beloved ceremony locations: the Historic Fountain.

Located in the spacious two-acre front yard of our mansion, the elegant white fountain creates a beautiful focal point for your ceremony, with our historic mansion in the background. Guests are seated facing the fountain and the mansion, and the Historic Fountain provides space for large bridal parties and guest seating arrangements. The two Buckeyes add a meaningful historic touch to this already memorable ceremony setting.

For outdoor ceremonies, we set up and break down our upgraded white padded ceremony chairs for you.

A Historic Mansion Venue in Maryland With Modern Comforts

The Buckeyes are one part of the history that makes Bowling Brook Mansion unique. Renovated from farmhouse to mansion in 1872, Bowling Brook was once one of the most significant horse training facilities in the nation, boasting seven Preakness winners. Our mansion has been fully restored with elegant finishes while maintaining its original historic detail, including ornate woodwork and beautiful chandeliers.

While we are proud of our history, we also offer the modern comforts your guests expect. Our mansion and ballroom both have central heat and air conditioning, so everyone stays comfortable in every season. Our Grand Ballroom, which combines the Ballroom and State Room, offers 3,100 square feet of reception space and can accommodate up to 200 guests. Our rooftop patio offers an open-air setting overlooking the grounds and can be used for ceremonies, cocktail hours, or gatherings.

We are located in Carroll County, Maryland, just minutes from Frederick County, and within easy reach of Montgomery County, Washington, DC, and Northern Virginia.

Our Ceremony Locations

The Historic Fountain is one of ten ceremony locations we offer at Bowling Brook Mansion. Outdoors, couples can choose the Grove, a tree-filled ceremony location that creates a peaceful outdoor setting; our elegant White Gazebo; the Rooftop Patio; the Dock, a 10' x 16' deck on our water feature with a lighted double-tier fountain, where our water feature site can seat up to 200 guests; Lover's Lane, a quaint country lane with a canopy of mature trees and 360-degree countryside views; the Mansion Front, where our historic mansion becomes the backdrop for your ceremony; and our Historic Barn, an 1800s bank barn with a more country-casual feel.

Indoors, our Ballroom Feature Wall offers a spacious ceremony area for larger weddings, and our Romantic Fireplace at the base of the mansion's sweeping staircase is ideal for ceremonies of 85 guests or fewer. During winter or inclement weather, ceremonies take place in our Grand Ballroom or the mansion, depending on guest count.

Your ceremony location is finalized during your final walk-through about one month before your wedding, allowing our team to coordinate setup details.

Planning Your Wedding With Us

As a historic, elegant, and affordable wedding venue, we host only one event per day, so the venue is yours. Your wedding party can arrive at noon to get ready in our Bridal Suite, which includes a three-station beauty bar for hair and makeup, or relax in our elegantly furnished Groom's Den.

Our on-site vendor and ceremony coordinator meets with you for a one-hour final walk-through and event layout one month before your wedding, and leads your one-hour ceremony rehearsal, typically held the Thursday before your event. On your wedding day, our coordinator handles ceremony coordination, greets and directs your bridal party, assists your vendors with setup logistics, directs guests between cocktail hour and the ballroom, and coordinates your sparkler or special exit if you choose one.

You're welcome to choose your own vendors, with catering selected from our list of approved catering partners. Optional overnight suites are also available for you and your guests on the night of your event.
